Universities for Net-Zero International Teaching Exchange:

Transhemispheric Research and Capacity Building Between Chile and the United States

The University of Missouri, Kansas City and Universidad Católica de Temuco initiative, Universities for Net-zero International Teaching Exchange (UNITE), focuses on addressing climate change by facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange via two activities. UNITE aims to enhance understanding of climate change resilience through two, US-Chile team-taught courses enrolling students from US and Chile. The courses focus on developing linguistic, intercultural, and technical skills necessary for a sustainable transition to a climate-resilient future. The Climate Action Project engages students and faculty from both universities in collaborative efforts to identify and implement campus-driven offset projects to reduce their carbon footprints. The CAP involves stakeholders from each university community and seeks to establish a joint research program and knowledge-sharing platform. UNITE will foster trans-hemispheric partnerships focused on climate resilience by linking researchers and community stakeholders. It exemplifies an innovative approach to addressing climate change through educational partnerships and action-oriented projects that serve as a foundation for future collaboration.
