Transdisciplinary Participatory Research Exchange Program in the Bolivian Amazon
This project will solve environmental challenges that demand innovative multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary methods. To do so, the universities will develop a new generation of scientists who engage collaboratively across disciplines and cultures, including stakeholders that prioritize fairness, access, and inclusion while framing research questions and identifying answers. This project will facilitate a transdisciplinary research exchange program that links students, professors, practitioners, and community groups. The institutions will focus on building transdisciplinary research skills in students from Universidad Amazónica de Pando (UAP) through innovative mentorship and research training programs in partnership with the University of Florida (UF) and Bolivian partners. Throughout the project’s duration, stakeholders will mentor students and identify research gaps and needs. UF graduate students will work in teams with UF and UAP faculty to mentor UAP undergraduate students, and both student cohorts will participate in an exchange program and regular virtual activities. Proposed activities will address topics related to the green economy, environment, climate action, energy transition, gender, inclusion, and diversity.
