Strengthening Capacities of Groundwater Exploration in the upper Chinchina River watershed via sustainability and environmental U.S.- Colombia studies

This project pursues student understanding of water formation in springs and paramos to strengthen the capacity of groundwater exploration via disciplinary, cultural, and linguistic collaborative courses and fieldwork activities between the universities. During this project, students will explore: 1) Education in geoscience to develop skills in assessing and evaluating groundwater resources in areas of complex topography, hydrogeology, groundwater exploration, and water conservation. 2) Intercultural environmental education mediated by the use of a foreign language to promote intercultural experiences centered on the importance of water conservation. 3) Fieldwork and experimental skills through the application of international methodologies in geoscience that allow for a hydrogeological characterization of Bemidji Springs in the U.S. and paramos in the upper part of the Chinchina River in Colombia.
