Strengthening Capacities of Groundwater Exploration in the Upper Chinchina River Watershed via Sustainability and Environmental U.S.- Colombia Studies

Explore the fascinating journey of exchange students who immersed themselves in the study of groundwater in the upper Chinchina River basin in Colombia.

Through the project, Strengthening Capacities of Groundwater Exploration in the Upper Chinchina River Watershed via Sustainability and Environmental U.S.- Colombia Studies, sponsored by Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (Minciencias). This initiative is a collaborative effort between Universidad Católica de Manizales in Colombia and Bemidji State University in the United States.

During their time abroad, students participated in various activities designed to strengthen their knowledge in geoscientific education, promote intercultural environmental awareness, and hone their skills in groundwater exploration. Through immersive disciplinary courses and practical fieldwork, students enhanced their knowledge and skills in evaluating groundwater resources in areas with diverse topography, hydrogeology, and water conservation requirements.

Their journey highlighted the importance of intercultural interactions, using foreign languages to facilitate communication and broaden understanding of water conservation methodologies. By applying international techniques and conducting fieldwork in locations such as Bemidji Springs in the United States and the high moorlands of the upper Chinchina River region in Colombia, students acquired valuable skills in hydrogeological characterization.

Join us as we continue to share student testimonies, just like this transformative expedition, united in our commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable water management practices! Together, we believe in making a positive impact on our world!
