Global Inquiry in Brazil and Bolivia: A Field Course and Internship/Research Experience Promoting Education and Exchange on Sustainable Development, Environmental Governance & Social Entrepreneurship

The University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) developed an innovative program called Global Inquiry with several partners: Universidade Federal do Maranhão, Universidade de São Paulo, and Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz in Brazil, and Universidad Pública de El Alto and Unidad Academica Campesina “Carmen Pampa” in Bolivia. This partnership also included collaboration with the University of Wisconsin, Kansas University, and Indiana University. The objective of the program is to increase student knowledge of salient topics in the global context regarding sustainable development, environmental governance, and social entrepreneurship. Global Inquiry planned to support the studies of thirty-two (32) U.S. students abroad and thirty-two (32) Brazilian and Bolivian students in the U.S. As of the final report, twenty (20) students traveled southbound to either of the locations of the partner universities. Following the Global Inquiry model, students participated in a six-week immersion study abroad program that included service learning and in- country research project development organized by teams within the program’s topics.
