The 100,000 Strong in the Americas Alliance for Climate Action (100K CLIMA/IE) is a signature effort by the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the U.S. Department of State (WHA-DOS) and Partners of the Americas (Partners) to catalyze climate action and collaboration at higher education institutions in the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), equipping the region’s future workforce with the skills needed to lead in a climate-positive, 21st century green economy. This green economy must be built on region-wide alliances between industry, governments, civil society, and education institutions working in alignment to prepare the workforce needed to simultaneously reduce emissions, inequality, and poverty. WHA-DOS and Partners are pleased to recognize the first supporters of the 100K CLIMA/IE initiative:
Building on the 10-year track record and impactful model of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund, the 100K CLIMA/IE initiative is investing in climate action and collaboration among the region’s higher education institutions (HEIs).
The 100,000 Strong in the Americas Inclusive Education Initiative increases multi-disciplinary institutional partnerships, deepening diversity and providing critical access to hemispheric higher education training and exchange opportunities for students and faculty from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). These new 100K competitions in 2023-2025 will stimulate innovative models of social inclusion, supporting student exchanges, training, research and workforce development. Funding from the Department and the private sector support U.S. commitment to existing bilateral agreements on racial and ethnic equality and international education in Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, and other WHA countries, while maximizing inclusive regional education initiatives.
